The quiet killer
Few things annoy a customer more than turning up to a locked door because the internet said you were open. It costs you the sale, and it often costs you a one-star review on top. Wrong hours are one of the most common and most damaging errors we see, and one of the easiest to fix.
Where wrong hours come from
Sometimes Google auto-generates hours it guessed. Sometimes an old listing from years ago is still floating around with the wrong times. Sometimes your website, Facebook and Google simply disagree with each other. And almost always, holiday and special hours are never set.
Fix them at the source, then everywhere
Start with your Google Business Profile, since that is what most people see. Set your regular hours exactly, then check that your website, Facebook, and any directory listings all say the same thing. Inconsistency does not just confuse customers; it makes Google trust your listing less.
Do not forget special hours
Public holidays, seasonal changes, that one week you close—set them in advance on Google as special hours. This is where most businesses get caught out, and it is the version of wrong hours that generates the angriest reviews.
Check it like a customer
Once a quarter, search your own business on your phone as a customer would and read your hours back. It takes two minutes and prevents the kind of small, avoidable mistake that turns a would-be regular away for good.
